I always watch youtube with adblock disabled, so ads still play and youtubers still get paid, etc, however it works, I don’t really know… but most of the youtubers I watch make their living through it so I keep it disabled.

However, after refreshing the same video about 6 times because an ad wouldn’t load and there was just a blank screen for several minutes I ended up having to enable adblock just to actually watch the video.

The moral of this story is, sort your shit out youtube. Or maybe, more correctly, sort your shit out if you’re putting an ad on youtube. It’s frustrating if the actual ad won’t load, or spends what feels like 5 hours just buffering.

So, a year ago around this time I wrote a whole essay about why I don’t tend to call my self a feminist, largely because I feel like “isms and ists” tend to divide people rather than bring them together, and as we all know I am all crazy about connections. But clearly, it was not true because after making this declaration I set out to find women who think the same way I do, who embrace ladies of all walks, instead of tearing them down.

I guess, when it comes down to it, I am, of course a feminist, I am just not attached to the word as much as I am to the concept, and I think the word has so many different definitions for different people, that I can forgive people/support those who use caution when calling themselves feminists. My girl, T Swift, comes to mind, when I say this. She continues to be torn down for not actively announcing herself as a feminist. When asked if her music empowers women she responded: “I write from a place of my personal feelings about things. It’s funny when you write a song and you don’t expect it to turn into what it turns into when it goes out in the world. I wrote a song called “Mean” about a critic who hated me. I put it out, and all of a sudden, it became an anthem against bullies in schools, which is a refreshing and new take on it. When people say things about me empowering women, that’s an amazing compliment. It’s not necessarily what I thought I was doing, because I write songs about what I feel. I think there’s strength when you’re baring your emotions.” and was then criticized for “not intending” to empower women.

I gotta call BS on this one. She didn’t say “OH GOD NO, I HOPE NOT”, but she said honestly, that she was writing about her feelings, and however that ends up being translated in the grander scheme is great. T Swift reminds ladies (and gentlemen) to embrace their emotions rather than a lot of other pop music that completely avoid vulnerability for the sake of seeming “tough”. To quote a friend, “apathy is the enemy”. I am fully of the “give too many shits” philosophy, and appreciate that T Swift allows me to embrace this philosophy instead of suppressing it.

I appreciate discussions about feminism, and certainly enjoy them but I don’t discredit those who don’t have the conscious thought of gender equality as the motivation behind everything they do. You don’t have to proclaim yourself as a feminist, to be a person who is still having a positive influence on girls/humanity. In the end I really care about overall positive human influence than girl influence, because I think it would just be great if we could all appreciate each other regardless of gender.
